The first voyage

What an adventure! We had just bought the sailboat in Burriana and, between excitement and nerves, we set out on our first voyage to the port of San Gabriel in Alicante. January, the middle of winter, but with a sun that Mario en la proaaccompanied us almost the whole way. To calm our nerves, we had the invaluable help of Álvaro, a great friend with a lot of experience, and Mario, my brother, who had also sailed before.

We left Burriana one morning with little wind, so we motored with the mainsail up with a reef, not out of necessity, there was a problem with a rope and that's how we sailed the whole trip. Much of the journey was like this: cold but sunny and calm weather. More than 100 miles separated us from our destination. As evening approached, upon reaching Cabo la Nao, the wind began to pick up, quite considerably as we rounded the cape. It was then that we were able to enjoy sailing, Álvaro and I on deck, while he told me about how noble the "Azul" seemed. Those nighttime hours under sail, without the engine, were unforgettable.

La capitana

The "Azul" behaved impeccably, without any problems. However, Eli, my partner, got seasick, spending a rather difficult night. I, for my part, didn't sleep a wink; nerves and responsibility kept me awake.

At dawn, the sea was calm again. We motored, and I was able to take a nap. Alicante was already in sight, only a couple of hours away. Finally, almost at midday, we arrived at the port. Everything perfect! A huge thank you to Álvaro and Mario for their company and support. As soon as we touched land, Jesús, whom we didn't know at the time and who helped us dock, became the beginning of a great friendship. This first voyage, full of emotions, has shown us the reliability and nobility of the "Azul", and the importance of friendship and shared experience. An unforgettable experience that we will repeat soon!
